Toby Lynch, PhD
Welcome to My Psychotherapy Practice
Good psychotherapy helps you connect more deeply with what truly matters in your life. Feelings of being stuck, anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed can act as signals indicating a need for change. My role is to help you decode these signals, creating a collaborative environment apart from everyday life where we can understand them together, and to empower you to achieve the changes you desire.
About Me

I am a Clinical Psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and hold a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School. In addition to my private practice, I serve as the Assistant Director for Psychotherapy Innovations at MGH’s adult outpatient substance use disorders treatment program and Head of Research and Development for RecoveryWorks—an initiative designed to help individuals affected by addiction find and sustain meaningful employment.

My clinical training includes a residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center and a post-doctoral fellowship at VA Boston Healthcare System. I have also received training as a consulting psychologist at Emory University. I completed my doctoral degree in clinical psychology at University of Detroit Mercy.

I have extensive clinical training and experience in working with individuals dealing with substance use issues as well as those who have experienced trauma and PTSD. I am adept at supporting adults who aim to reduce or cease alcohol or drug use, as well as those interested in harm reduction without necessarily altering their pattern of use. I aim to meet people where they are at and fully respect their autonomy.
My Approach

My therapeutic approach is person-centered. I draw on a range of methodologies to best meet your needs but am most comfortable working within the following therapeutic frameworks:
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Psychodynamic Therapy
Harm-Reduction Psychotherapy
Twelve-Step Facilitation
